A British Airways Concorde jet on a flight from New York to London's Heathrow airport had to make an emergency landing at Shannon late last night. The plane touched down safely shortly before midnight when its number three engine had to be shut down.

Passengers were being accommodated overnight at Shannon while repairs were carried out on the Concorde. A Shannon spokesman said none of the passengers had been in any danger.
