Lusaka - A ceasefire to end the war in Democratic Republic of the Congo was on the brink of collapse yesterday, two days after it was fully endorsed, as rebel faction leaders failed to agree on how the truce should be supervised.
"We have made no progress whatsoever. The whole process has huge problems," the rebel leader, Mr Emile Ilunga, said. Mr Ilunga spoke as Zambian officials said President Frederick Chiluba had stepped up efforts to save the shaky deal as the Rwandan and Ugandan-backed rebel factions argued over who should be nominated to two organs mandated to implement the truce.
