The main rebel group fighting President Laurent Kabila of the Democratic Republic of the Congo yesterday dismissed the peace agreement signed by six countries involved in the war, and said the war would continue and get worse.

"We cannot comply with this agreement because we did not sign it. We are in a state of war and war will escalate. To us, there is nothing new," the Congolese Rally for Democracy (RCD) leader, Mr Emile Ilunga, told a news conference in the Zambian capital, Lusaka. Internal divisions prevented the rebels from signing.
