There was an increase of 28,300 workers in the construction industry from this time last year, according to the CSO's Quarterly National Household Survey.
The growth in the construction sector was dominated by males (+27,800) and accounted for 73 per cent of the overall annual increase in the number of males at work in all industries.
The number of non-Irish nationals employed by the construction industry increased by 11,500 to 38,000. This was the largest increase of the non-Irish workforce in construction.
The number of Irish workers in the industry increased by 16,800.
