Aer Lingus 20 per cent sale: Another aspect of the nature of these hidden charges from airlines can be seen in Aer Lingus's current 20 per cent off offer.
I priced a return flight that had flight out €40 and flight return €36. As I progressed through the booking process it shows, just before you go to credit card details, that 20 per cent is only taken off this €76 fee, reducing the fare to €60.80. However, an additional airport charges/landing fee/whatever-we're-calling-it-this-week charge of €60 is applied after the discount, reducing this 20 per cent claim considerably. Surely this is another clandestine charge? How can an airline claim to offer 20 per cent off flights when they don't take the discount off the total cost? I realise the terms are in the small print on a subsequent page after you click on the advert, but they aren't on the bottom of the advert on the homepage. Paul M
