Police in Northern Ireland launched a major security operation in the greater Belfast area after the Continuity IRA threatened to blow up a police station.

Earlier today a caller to a Belfast newsroom said that a "substantial explosive device" would be moved in the city.

The target given was an unidentified police station.

Police said they are treating the threat very seriously after the recent attack on a Co Derry police station and the potential to exploit the upcoming Northern Iereland talks in Leeds tomorrow.

Vehicle check-points have been set up and police are asking people to be extra vigilant.
