Lisdoonvarna's St Enda's National School and Scoil Bhríde in Rathcormac, Co Cork, yesterday won the All Ireland finals of the Credit Union schools quiz held in Dublin.
Competing against more than 100 other teams in the final stages, the two schools won the under-11 and under-13 competitions respectively. They were presented with their team trophies and individual prizes - and their schools with substantial cheques - by Anne O'Byrne, president of the Irish League of Credit Unions. The runners-up in the under-11 competition were, jointly, Réalt na Mara girls national school ( Meath) and Scoil na Croise Naofa (Dungarvan).
Runners-up in the under-13 competition were St Brigid's National School, Cavan.
Speaking at the presentation of prizes, Ms O'Byrne said: "The Irish Credit Union movement's growth and its commitment to community development in Ireland is well recognised as a significant contributor to Irish society. By far the largest providers of social finance in Ireland, we continue to invest in our communities in a variety of ways - and this 15th All Ireland Credit Union schools quiz is further evidence of that."
