WHAT ORGANISERS claim is "the biggest blind tasting of its kind in the world", the Blas na hÉireann Irish food awards saw 1,000 of the best Irish products blind tasted by 60 judges over two sessions in Cork and Kerry.

The results were announced in Dingle this weekend at the annual Dingle food festival.

The overall award went to Flynn's Kitchens from Riverstick in Cork which was awarded the title of Supreme Champion, with their spinach and ricotta cannelloni. Best Artisan Producer, sponsored by An Bord Bia, went to The Cake Stand from Newcastle, Co Dublin.

In seafood, BIM's sponsored award for Seafood Innovation went to Island Seafood from Killybegs, Co Donegal, and Best New Producer, sponsored by Superquinn, went to Dungarvan Brewing Company from Dungarvan, Co Waterford.

Rogha na Gaeltachta, sponsored by Údarás went to Jerry Kennedy Butchers from Dingle. The AIB diversification award went to The Blue Haven Food Company from Kinsale and Best Kerry Producer, sponsored by Kerry Enterprise went to Valentia Island Farmhouse Dairy.

Some 90 producers from all over Ireland took home gold, silver and bronze medals.

Meanwhile, 55 venues took part in the four-hour food trail at the festival in Dingle yesterday.
