A Green Party councillor was today considering moving his 10-year-old daughter from his family home after it was attacked for the second time in a week.

Mr Chris O'Leary, who represents the South East Ward in Cork city, was at home with his wife and daughter when a gang threw missiles, including rocks and stones, at 10.30 p.m. last night.

He said: "My daughter was quite upset - she's gone out the door to school today crying. I am seriously considering moving her out of our home for her own safety."

The stones failed to reach the house but damaged his car and that of his wife.

Mr O'Leary said he would be getting friends and relatives to patrol around the house at night.

Last Thursday, two youths threw a concrete block through the window of his home in Mahon, Cork.

Mr O'Leary believes the attacks are connected to his stance on anti-social behaviour in the area. He vowed to continue with a planned meeting on the issue, which is scheduled to take place next week.

"I am asking all those who face similar intimidation to come forward and show solidarity by attending the community meeting," he said.

Gardaí in Blackrock said they were investigating the attacks. A spokesman said: "A number of people were interviewed after the first attack but no charges have been brought yet. The investigation is ongoing."
