The Cork couple who lost their son and unborn daughter in a car crash in England last month are now in a stable condition in hospital.
Con (39) and Elber Twomey (36) from Meelin in north Cork remain at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, where family members continue to pray for their recovery.
The couple lost their children, Oisín (18 months) and unborn baby girl Elber Marie, when their car was involved in a head-on collision at Torquay, in Devon, on July 6th.
Oisín suffered severe head and neck injuries and died at the scene, while his unborn sister died in hospital hours later.
It is understood the couple sustained serious head injuries but a spokesman for Derriford Hospital confirmed yesterday that their condition was now stable.
They had been making their way to the ferry to return to Ireland after a family holiday in southwest England when the crash occurred at 2.45pm at Hamelin Way outside Torquay, when a Vauxhall Vectra veered into the path of the Twomeys’ Volkswagen Golf.
The driver of the second car, father of two Marek Wojciechowski (26), suffered multiple injuries and died following the crash.
Newmarket based parish priest Fr David Herlihy said several family members remained in Britain in support of the couple’s recovery.
