Gardaí are investigating the discovery of the body of a newborn baby in a house near Dunmanway, West Cork this afternoon.
The discovery was made at 1.30pm and gardaí believe it may have been there for several weeks.
The scene was immediately sealed off pending a technical examination and Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster is carrying out a preliminary post mortem at the scene.
Gardaí, who were alerted to the discovery by the family who owns the house, are investigating if the baby was stillborn or if he or she died after birth.
