Gardaí in Cork have arrested a 36 year-old man for questioning after they seized over €400,000 worth of drugs in a raid on a house on the southside of the city.
Members of the Cork City Divisional Drugs Squad discovered 61 kilos of cannabis when they raided a house in the Ashcroft area of Ballintemple at around 6.30pm
Detectives found the cannabis along with a small quantity of cocaine, mixing agents in bedroom in the single story house and arrested the occupant, a Latvian man.
The man was arrested under Drugs Trafficking Legislation which allows gardai hold suspects for up to seven days and he was brought to the Bridewell Garda Station for questioning.
A Garda spokesman said the seizure followed a garda surveillance operation targetting drugs dealing in Cork city and county by a gang drawn from the Baltic states.
Gardaí believe the drugs, the largest quantity to be seized in Cork this year, were destined for the local Cork market.
