A man in his 50s from Bear Island died in a boating accident off Castletownbere in west Cork yesterday evening. He was thrown overboard from his speedboat when it hit a wave shortly after 8 p.m.
The body was recovered by Castletownbere lifeboat. A coast guard spokesman said that the man had not been wearing a lifejacket. A post-mortem examination will be carried out today at Cork University Hospital.
