Cork City have moved into third position in the Eircom League Premier Division after beating Derry City 1-0 at Turner’s Cross this afternoon.

Cork started the game with plenty of enthusiasm and were rewarded for their enterprising play after 18 minutes. Centre-half Derek Coughlan latched onto Ollie Cahill’s corner ball to steer home the only goal of the game.

Derry upped their performance after the break but squandered numerous goal scoring opportunities. Liam Coyle and Tommy McCallion should have done better with late chances.

Ollie Cahill and Colin P O'Brien should have put the home side further ahead late in the game while the afternoon ended on a sour note for the Candystripes when defender Darren Kelly was sent off in the 90th minute after receiving his second yellow card.
