Fastnet Line has launched the booking facility for the Swansea-Cork-Swansea ferry service which will get under way on March 1st next.
The ferry service, which was axed three years ago, is set to make a comeback with the new €7.8 million Finnish vessel MV Julia, which will sail the route.
West Cork Tourism began its campaign at the beginning of the year to get the route going again. Finnish bank Aktia Bank and its finance company, Aktia Yritysrahoitus Oy, supported the acquisition of the Julia (built in 1982) through the provision of a multimillion-euro mortgage.
Fastnet Line believes the service can sustain more than 1,000 jobs. It is expected to be worth more than €50 million annually to the local economy.
The Julia has sailed several routes in Scandinavia.
