• The industry is unregulated

• Advertising can be misleading

• Patients should be referred by their own GP

• Clinics should provide continuity of care to patients who undergo procedures

• There should be a cooling-off period of two weeks before a patient undergoes a procedure after they have had a consultation with a surgeon in a cosmetic surgery clinic

• Clinics should be open and honest about complications

• Procedures should be carried out in appropriate surroundings

• Those operating in cosmetic surgery clinics should be properly qualified and registered with the Medical Council
