Meath county council today granted Indaver Ireland permission to increase the amount of waste it will process at its proposed plant at Carranstown, near Duleek.

As a result, Indaver will be permitted to accept up to 200 thousand tonnes of waste a year - an increase of 50 thousand tonnes.
Fine Gael's Meath East TD Shane McEntee has condemned the decision. "This is a bad day for the people of Co Meath as the Government, the Environmental Protections Agency and Meath county council are riding rough shod over local residents."
As part of its permission the council has attached 32 conditions including a specification that the waste processed shall primarily be generated in the North East Region area.
The incinerator has been the subject of vigorous opposition from some local people, who claim it may have detrimental effects on health.
