MEATH COUNTY Council has said it is concerned that six of its planning staff “were subjected to a high level of inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour” from a small number of people at an information meeting it held on the conservation plan being proposed for the Tara-Skryne valley.
The council said its staff judged that after a certain point at the Navan meeting on Monday “there was little or nothing to be achieved” by continuing.
Yesterday, local Fine Gael deputy Shane McEntee said he would organise another meeting for next week. He claimed local residents and representatives “were left confused and angry” at the Navan meeting “when it became apparent there was not going to be a presentation or a questions and answers session”.
The council said the statutory process relating to the plan was continuing, and the manager’s report on it will be debated by county councillors on October 12th. If adopted, the plan will result in preparation by the council of an area action plan. It has provoked strong feelings from supporters and opponents, adding to possible political fallout from the councillors’ final decision.
