Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has suspended the introduction of its "no payment, no bin collection" policy because it needs time to handle a large influx of money received in recent weeks.
The council said yesterday, however, that it objected to a "mini-bus of protesters which arrived, blockaded a bin lorry, and waited until a Herald photographer arrived, before bundling back in the bus and leaving again".
Meanwhile, the Fingal anti-bin tax campaign said its "Free Joe and Clare Campaign" is now supported by singers Delores Keane and Eleanor McEvoy and artist Robert Ballagh, as well as TDs Tony Gregory, Finian McGrath, Seamus Healy, Paudge Connolly, Marian Harkin, Dr Liam Twomey and James Breen.
The campaign also claimed support from a range of MEPs and members of European parliaments. The campaign has also launched a financial appeal to raise €60,000 to cover court costs associated with the jailing of Mr Higgins and Ms Daly.
