A Fine Gael town councillor has backed controversial comments made by Fianna Fáil councillor Seán McEniff about a Traveller family last week.
Eugene Dolan, a town councillor in Ballyshannon, Co Donegal, told the Donegal Democrat that as far as he was concerned, "they can be sent to Spike Island for all I care".
A Fine Gael spokeswoman said Mr Dolan was expressing a "personal opinion" and his opinions "do not represent Fine Gael policy".
Mr McEniff claimed last week that Travellers should live in isolation, away from settled people.
