A former chairman of Ennis Urban District Council told the January meeting of the council: "We have enough of refugees and we want no more of them."
Mr Tommy Brennan (Independent) was speaking after the Mid-Western Health Board informed the council that 470 asylum-seekers were currently living in Ennis.
Mr Brennan added: "It is the view of people that I represent that we have our quota of asylum-seekers in Ennis."
He was supported by Mr Michael Guilfoyle.

A spokeswoman for the Irish Refugee Council, which has a branch in Ennis, declined to comment.
