She's the current Queen of the Silver Dollar, and her new found commercial (but not critical) appeal looks set to continue. Despite her immense crossover success, Shania Twain's story is pure country: both her parents died in a car crash just as she was about to launch herself into a singing career. Twain stayed at home bringing up her siblings until they were able to look after themselves. She subsequently met and married leading rock music producer Mutt Lange, whose keen understanding of the music industry and its many mysterious ways was enough to circumvent potential failure. Musically, she has more in common with Garth Brooks than Hank Williams, but her personal history nevertheless lurks in the background. She plays the RDS Simmonscourt today. Tony Clayton-Lea
