Fine Gael MEP Ms Avril Doyle appeared on dangerous and careless driving charges at Dublin District Court this morning.

Fine Gael MEP Ms Avril Doyle appeared on dangerous and careless driving charges at Dublin District Court this morning.

Ms Doyle is to contest charges of careless driving, driving without reasonable consideration, and dangerous driving in an incident on the M50 at Santry, Dublin, on March 26th, 2002.

Her case was adjourned to December 10th.  The prosecution succeeded in its application to have one of the summons amended to reflect a changed location for the incident.

The amendment was granted, despite opposition by Ms Doyle's counsel, Ms Joan Walsh, who said: "[The proposed amendment] is predjudicial, it is changing the locus of the accident."

Ms Walsh asked the court to set a new hearing date for the Friday to allow for her client's work in Europe. The proceedings were moved from court 53 to court 54 to facilitate the request.

The court heard that three prosecution witnesses and one defence witness would be called in the full hearing of the case.

Ms Doyle was at today's proceedings but was not required to give evidence.
