A Dublin teenager, charged with the manslaughter of a taxi driver and a teenage boy in connection with a motoring collision last January, was returned for trial in the Circuit Criminal Court yesterday.

The Dublin Children's Court had heard that the 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with the manslaughter of taxi driver, Mr Robert "Bob" McGowan (30), Galtymore Road, Drimnagh, Dublin, who died in the early hours of January 11th. He is also accused of the manslaughter of teenager Mr Edward Gavin on the same date.

The accused also faces charges for dangerous driving causing both deaths as well as other counts for criminal damage, dangerous driving, reckless endangerment and unlawful use of a mechanically-propelled vehicle without the owner's consent in the same incident.

The DPP had earlier directed trial on indictment for the teenager and another 16-year-old boy who is charged with travelling as a passenger in the stolen car allegedly involved in the incident.

After a number of adjournments to allow the State prepare its case, Garda Insp Tony Gallagher, Mountjoy station, served both teenagers with a book of evidence in the case yesterday. Judge Michael Connellan then told the boys that if they wanted to use an alibi for their defence they should notify the Chief State Solicitors' office within 14 days.

He ordered a return for trial on indictment to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Both teenagers were further remanded in custody in St Patrick's Institution.
