An over-zealous suitor, who refused to accept the relationship with his former girlfriend was over, has been restrained by a court from intimidating her or her friends and family.

Judge Yvonne Murphy was told in Dublin Circuit Civil Court yesterday that Mr Kevin Lacey, of Newenham Street, Limerick, had created an intolerable situation for his ex-girlfriend.

Mr Don Seligman said that since his client, Ms Mary Morrissey, of Tyrconnell Road, Inchicore, Dublin, had broken up with Mr Lacey, she and other members of her family had been subjected to unbearable oppression and intimidation.

"He does not accept the relationship has broken up and has made a number of abusive phone calls to Ms Morrissey and other members of her family," Mr Seligman said.

He said Ms Morrissey's solicitors had written to Mr Lacey indicating there would be court action if his harassment did not stop. Mr Lacey had phoned the solicitors concerned and had sounded drunk. He had refused to give an undertaking to cease harassing her.

Judge Murphy granted orders restraining Mr Lacey from harassing, intimidating, interfering with or phoning Ms Morrissey or any of her friends, colleagues or family members.
