A British woman and her husband have been found guilty of killing his six-year-old daughter.
Tracey Wright and her husband, Craig, have also been convicted of willfully neglecting Lauren Wright. During a trial in Norwich the jury heard how Lauren died at her home in Welney, Norfolk, on May 6th, 2000.
Prosecutors alleged that Tracey Wright had cruelly abused and spitefully treated the little girl. They alleged that Craig Wright had turned a blind eye.
A post-mortem showed Lauren had 60 bruises on her body when she died - including marks made by hard objects, possibly a stick. Tests showed she died after being punched so hard in the stomach her digestive system collapsed, the jury was told.
Tracey (31) and Craig Wright (38) from Welney both denied manslaughter and willful neglect.
Acting Chief Supt Martin Wright said: "During the last two weeks of the trial there has been a mass of evidence which shows that Tracey Wright mounted a campaign of physical and emotional abuse against a defenceless child culminating in Lauren's tragic death.
"There will be a significant amount of satisfaction in many quarters that she has been convicted. Her behaviour can only be described as vile and sadistic and our thoughts, of course, will be with Lauren today".
Sentencing has been adjourned to a later date yet to be fixed. Both defendants have been remanded in custody.
