Court orders Loughrea TV deflector firm to end service

A dispute over a TV deflector service in Co Galway has been resolved at the High Court

A dispute over a TV deflector service in Co Galway has been resolved at the High Court. Under the terms of orders made by consent the service is to cease operating from June 1st.

Cablelink Galway Ltd had issued proceedings against Mr Michael Healy, Old Church Street, Athenry, and Loughrea Community Entertainments Ltd, Main Street, Loughrea, over the operation of a deflector TV service at Knockroe, Loughrea.

Mr Donal O'Donnell SC, with Mr Paul Gallagher SC, for Cablelink, told Mr Justice Peter Kelly the matter had been resolved and asked the judge to make orders by consent. The judge issued an injunction ordering the defendants not to transmit any TV signal other than in accordance with the Wireless Telegraphy Act from June 1st.

The defendants must remove all deflector equipment from Knockroe and must not give it to any other party or otherwise make use of it without the appropriate licence. A further order restrains the defendants from allowing any of their lands to be used for unlicensed deflector broadcasts.
