Michael Stone, who was jailed for life in 1998 for murdering a woman and her six-year-old daughter, is to face a retrial, London's Court of Appeal said this afternoon.

Judges said that Stone's original conviction for beating to death Lin Russell and her daughter, Megan, and severely wounding older daughter Josie could not stand because the evidence of a key witness was unreliable.
The judges ordered a retrial rather than acquitting Stone - the other option open to them.
