The Supreme Court has decided the High Court has jurisdiction to order that interest be paid on any award made under the Hepatitis C Compensation Tribunal Act of 1997.
It said the Hepatitis C Compensation Tribunal had discretion to order that interest be paid on any sum it awarded. The High Court had a similar right.
The matter came before the Supreme Court through an appeal by the husband of a woman who contracted hepatitis C from an injection of contaminated anti-D blood product on May 18th, 1977.
