Minister for Finance Brian Cowen today allocated an extra €29.7 million to the Department of Justice's annual budget for 2007.
The additional money is to cover the costs associated with the Garda Reserve force and the accommodation of the new Garda Ombudsman Commission and the Law Reform Commission.
Announcing the Revised Estimates for Public Services and Public Capital Programme in the Dáil today, Mr Cowen said total gross voted expenditure in 2007 will be €56.3 billion, almost €6.5 billion or 13 per cent more than 2006.
"The allocation of €56.3 billion includes full provision for spending in 2007 on the National Development Plan's ambitious programme of investment in infrastructure and social development designed to achieve the twin goals of improving competitiveness and the quality of life of all our citizens," he said.
The revised estimates include €56.15 million funded from the Dormant Accounts Fund across a range of departments to assist persons affected by economic, social or educational disadvantage, or persons with a disability.
Health expenditure includes an additional €51 million, arising in part from increased provision for the early childcare payment of €25 million.
