Munster MEP Pat Cox was in Kosovo this week visiting our Kfor transport troops serving under a German NATO general. They are, he says, the front-runners of the emerging European and Irish defence policy in the context of PfP, and theirs is precisely the type of action we are capable of delivering in a mature partnership. No doubt there about where he stands.
Cox and his small Liberal group then went to Pristina. At his home in Cork, several months ago, he entertained Gerj Dedaj, the Kosovan Albanian leader of the local liberals, when he was here visiting refugees. Cox presented him with a bottle of Midleton Reserve whiskey. It was agreed they would save it until Kosovo was free. They drank it in Pristina this week.
