THE CRANBERRIES’ lead singer, Dolores O’Riordan, has said she is “tickled silly” that the band are to get back together to tour and record a new album.
O'Riordan, who released her second solo album No Baggageyesterday, said a reunion at her eldest son's christening in June provided the catalyst for their decision to reform.
She invited the other three band members, brothers Mike and Noel Hogan and drummer Fergus Lawler and their families, to son Taylor’s christening in Canada where she now lives.
“When I stood there among the three of them there was this energy around my body which was extremely familiar and comfortable. It was a warm feeling and something that I missed.
“I then realised that I actually missed these boys,” she told The Irish Times.
“We lost contact with each other. We were always friends, but I wouldn’t be hanging around with them offstage. They’re real lad’s lads. What was I going to talk to them about? Breastfeeding?”
Previously, O’Riordan had reunited and played with the Hogan brothers when she was made an honorary patron of Trinity’s Philosophical Society in January, but nothing came of any reunion plans then.
It was the first time the band members had seen each other or played together in nearly six years.
The Cranberries announced the reunion on their website yesterday. The North American leg of the tour will start in Toronto in mid-November and move to Europe in the spring although no dates have been confirmed.
