Mr Dylan Creaven (29), who appeared before a British court yesterday, charged with tax fraud and money-laundering, hails originally from Newmarket-on-Fergus, Co Clare, and retains strong links with his native county.

His company, Silicon Technologies Europe Ltd, operates from an office at the Government-subsidised Shannon Development Clare Business Centre in Ennis.

According to records from the Companies Registration Office, Silicon Technologies Europe was set up with 10 £1 shares in July 1996, when Mr Creaven was aged just 22. An abridged balanced sheet for the year ended June 30th 2001 stated that the company had net assets of €4.16 million.

In the past two years it has opened offices in Singapore and in Beverly, near Boston, Massachusetts. According to the company's website, Silicon Technologies North America Inc returned $46 million in revenue in its first year's trading.
