Review of developments in tort law
The Bar Council has organised a conference to review and update the latest developments in tort law on Saturday, February 9th, in the Distillery Building, Church Street at 9.30am.
Chaired by Mr Justice Kevin Cross, topics will include employers and vicarious liability; section 26 of the Civil Liability and Courts Act 2004; libel; damages in personal injury cases and professional negligence claims against doctors.
No booking is required and there is a €50 attendance fee. CPD points are available.
Meeting to focus on Ireland on UN rights council
NUI Galway’s Irish Centre for Human Rights and the Irish Council for Civil Liberties are to host a one-day seminar acknowledging Ireland’s first term as a newly elected member of the UN Human Rights Council.
The seminar, Ireland and the Human Rights Council – Where to From Here? will take place on Friday, February 1st in the Aula Maxima, NUI Galway. It will bring together a range of experts, including Gerry Corr, the Irish Ambassador to the United Nations, to draw up a list of recommendations that can inform Ireland’s term of office on the council.
Other speakers include Colm O’Gorman, Amnesty International (Irish section); Mary Lawlor, Frontline Defenders; Prof Michael O’Flaherty, Co-Director, Irish Centre for Human Rights, NUI Galway; Suzanne Egan, School of Law, UCD; Dr Niamh Reilly, school of political science and sociology, NUI Galway; Julie de Rivero, Human Rights Watch, and Caoimhe de Barra, Trócaire.
