A 48-year-old man charged with the attempted murder of a crèche worker, who suffered serious injuries in a knife attack, has been further remanded in custody.
Rose Kenny (46), was left fighting for her life after she sustained wounds to her neck and stomach on September 23rd last near her home at School Street Flats, in Dublin.
She was rushed to St James’s Hospital where she spent weeks recovering.
Denis Leahy will face his next hearing at Cloverhill District Court on December 17th.
Mr Leahy, from Dublin, who has no fixed abode having recently returned to Ireland after spending about a decade abroad, was originally charged with assault but did not apply for bail at his first hearing on September 24th.
During a later court hearing, Det Garda Richard Kelly had said a file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions last month and directions were needed in relation to the possibility of further charges.
Last week he appeared before judge Victor Blake at Cloverhill District Court; the assault charge was withdrawn and replaced with a more serious charge of attempted murder of Ms Kenny at School Street flats, contrary to common law.
Mr Leahy was then remanded in custody for a week, after which he appeared again and had his case adjourned until December 17th.
He has not yet entered a plea to the charge and a book of evidence has to be completed before he can be returned for trial to the Central Criminal Court.
Legal aid had been granted at an earlier stage to Mr Leahy after his lawyer had said the 48-year-old “has no means or income at the moment”.
