A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions after a Spanish woman was allegedly sexually assaulted in the toilet of a fast food restaurant in Cork last week.
The woman, who is in her early 50s, was followed into the toilets at McDonald’s in Daunts Square in Cork city centre at about 4am on August 4th last.
The woman was allegedly sexually assaulted. The alarm was raised by a security man onsite after he heard the woman’s screams.
Shortly afterwards, gardaí arrested a 27-year-old man. He was detained for questioning at the Bridewell Garda station but was subsequently released without charge.
Gardaí have viewed CCTV footage from the night in question. They have also interviewed members of the public who were at the fast food outlet when the attack occurred. The Spanish woman was left traumatised by the alleged incident.
A Garda source said yesterday: “It was a terrible experience for the victim and we are dealing with her in a sensitive manner as she was so traumatised. No-one expected to be subjected to such an assault in a toilet.
“She was very fortunate that she had the presence of mind to scream loudly and that her screams were heard.
“The staff were very quick in their response and were very helpful in assisting her”.
