Gardaí are appealing for information following a fatal traffic collision in Dublin on Saturday evening in which a man was killed when his motorcycle struck a street lighting pole.

The incident occurred at around 7.30pm at Homelawn Gardens, Tallaght.

The man, who was in his 20s, was seriously injured in the collision. He was taken to hospital by ambulance where he was later pronounced dead. The coroner was notified.

When detectives arrived on the scene, the motorcycle involved in the incident had been removed.

A search of the area was continuing yesterday and investigating gardaí are appealing for information.

A Garda spokesman said there was no description of the motorcycle and detectives were examining if CCTV footage might be available to ascertain what happened to it.

The road was closed for a time while Garda forensic collision investigators completed a technical examination of the scene. The road was later reopened to traffic. Anyone with information is asked to contact Tallaght Garda station on 01-6666000 or the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.
