Arbitrators conference to be held in Dublin
The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators is holding an international one-day conference on The Global Growth of ADRin the Davenport Hotel Dublin, with a Gala Dinner in Trinity College on September 24th, 2010.
The Irish president, Joe Behan, took up office as World President of the Institute on January 1st and the Irish branch is hosting the event. The conference will be addressed by speakers from the US, the UK, Europe, Africa and Asia as well as Ireland, and will cover all types of alternative dispute resolution, including mediation, conciliation, adjudication and arbitration.

Website lists Irish 'big five' lawyers
US-based commercial website Best Lawyers has published its third list for Ireland containing the names of 236 lawyers, of whom 171 are from the “big five” firms of solicitors in Dublin. There are only eight barristers, all senior counsel, on the list.
The list is compiled from nominations by those already on it and by the marketing departments of law firms. Lawyers can nominate colleagues from other firms or from the bar, and these are then voted on. The website sells links that go from the name of the lawyer to his or her profile on the website for a $125 annual subscription.

Employment law diplomas received
Thirty-eight students received diplomas in employment law from UCD in Newman House earlier this month.
The Professional Diploma in Employment Law, directed by Anthony Kerr, is part-time and run over an academic year. It is aimed at people working in human resources, trade unions and industrial relations as well as lawyers.
Among those who graduated were Orlaith Mannion and Conor Stokes, equality officers with the Equality Tribunal, and Assistant Garda Commissioner John Fintan Fanning. Details from www.ucd.ie/law
'Parchment' marks DSBA's 75th year
This year is the 75th anniversary of the Dublin Solicitors Bar Association (DSBA), and to mark the occasion its magazine, Parchment, has published a commemorative supplement. It contains reminiscences from former luminaries of the, along with photographs going back as far as 1937.
