Anniversary of Centre for Human Rights
The 10th anniversary celebrations of the Irish Centre for Human Rights at NUI Galway will take place on November 19th and 20th.
Speakers at the two-day event will include Andrew Clapham of the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights; David Scheffer, the first United States ambassador-at-large for War Crimes Issues; and Leila Nadya Sadat, professor at Washington University’s school of law.

European law society forums
The Irish Society for European Law is holding a procurement law forum next Wednesday and a competition law forum on Tuesday, November 16th.
The procurement law forum takes place in the Ormond Meeting Rooms at 31-36 Ormond Quay, Dublin at 6.30pm.
Prof Sue Arrowsmith of the University of Nottingham and Patrick McGovern, partner at Arthur Cox Solicitors, will speak, and the forum will be chaired by Mr Justice Nial Fennelly.
The competition law forum is on the topic of Legal Privilege and the Akzo Nobel ruling and will take place at Dillon Eustace, Sir John Rogerson’s Quay, Dublin 2, at 6.30pm.
The speakers are Eileen Roberts, partner, A L Goodbody; John Kettle, partner Mason Hayes+ Curran; and Julianne O’Leary, partner, Stephenson Harwood. Both events cost €20 for non-ISEL members. Further details are on www.isel.ie
Annual conference of law teachers
The Irish Association of Law Teachers Annual Conference will take place in the Strand Hotel, Limerick, from Friday, November 26th, to Sunday, November 28th, on the theme, Thirty Years of Irish Scholarship: Lessons from the Past, Visions for the Future. The first association book prize will also be awarded at the conference, and nominations can be made using the nomination form on the website.
