Presumption of innocence talk
DIT School of Social Sciences and Law, in association with the Law Society of Ireland, is holding a conference on the presumption of innocence, chaired by Mr Justice Adrian Hardiman, in Room 4027 in DIT Aungier Street on Saturday week, November 27th, from 9am to 3.30pm.
The conference will consider whether recent law has meant the progressive erosion of the right to be presumed innocent. Dr Michael Naughton of the Innocence Network UK is among the speakers.
Insolvency risk
Mason Hayes+Curran are holding a breakfast seminar on “Challenges for in-house counsel in managing insolvency risk” on Wednesday from 8am to 9.30am in their offices in Barrow St, Dublin 4.
New court rules on mediation
New rules of the superior courts, dealing with mediation and conciliation, come into force tomorrow. These provide that the court may order that proceedings be adjourned and invite the parties to use an ADR process, or where the parties consent to refer the proceedings to such a process. The court may also invite the parties to attend an information session on the use of mediation.
Housing law conference
The UCD Constitutional Studies Group will hold a conference on recent developments in housing law in the Belvedere Hotel on Great Denmark Street in Dublin on Wednesday from 5.30-7.45pm.
The conference will have a particular focus on the implications for Irish housing law of the European Convention on Human Rights. It carries two CPD points.
Human rights conference
The Irish Human Rights Commission/Law Society’s 8th annual human rights conference takes place on Saturday from 9.15am until 3.30pm at the President’s Hall, Law Society, Blackhall Place, Dublin 7.
The theme of the conference this year is “Emerging Human Rights Issues” and the keynote speaker is Prof Michael O’Flaherty, member of the UN Human Rights Committee.

National Moot Court competition
The National Moot Court competition will take place in the Criminal Courts Complex, Parkgate Street, Dublin, on Saturday.
Organised by the DCU Social-Legal Research Centre, it will focus on Irish criminal law and the law of evidence. A total of 16 teams from Irish third-level institutions have registered to take part in the competition.
