International family law conference
The 15th Four Jurisdictions Family Law Conference will take place at the Ritz-Carlton Powerscourt Hotel, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, on January 29th and 30th next. The conference brings together family lawyers from the Republic, Northern Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland to discuss and compare family law in each jurisdiction.
It will be opened by President Mary McAleese, and there will be keynote speakers from each of the jurisdictions on topics ranging from human rights and family law to the place of reporting and the media in family law.

Children's rights seminar in Cork
The UCC Free Legal Advice Centre Society is holding a seminar, The Future of Child Protection in Ireland in Light of the Ryan Report, on October 22nd at 7.00pm in Boole 1, UCC.
Speakers include Maria Corbett, policy director of the Children's Rights Alliance; Norah Gibbons, director of advocacy and central services at Barnados and a member of the Ryan commission; and Kieran Walsh, BL and UCC PhD candidate. The event focuses on necessary changes involving rights on a constitutional and subconstitutional basis.
Queen's human rights lecture
The annual lecture to commemorate Stephen Livingstone will take place next Wednesday at the school of law at Queen's University Belfast.
Entitled 2009: A Stocktake: Human Rights and the Agreement – How Far Have We Come?, the lecture will be given by Martin O'Brien, programme director of the reconciliation and human rights programme at Atlantic Philanthropies.
