Discussion on 'Enabling Dissent'

The Carnegie UK Trust Inquiry into the Future of Civil Society in the UK and Ireland and the Atlantic Philanthropies are holding a discussion on Enabling Dissent in the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin Castle on Wednesday May 20th at 6.30pm.

The event will be chaired by Susan McKay, director of the National Womens Council of Ireland, and speakers include Niall Crowley, former chief executive of the Equality Authority, Kumi Naidoo, Visiting Fellow at the Carnegie UK Trust, Sr Stanislaus Kennedy (Sister of Charity and founder of Focus Ireland) and general president of Siptu Jack OConnor.

North’s AG to speak in Queen’s

This year’s MacDermott Lecture will be given by Mr John F Larkin QC, the new Attorney General for Northern Ireland, on the topic of Nationality and Identity in the new Northern Ireland Constitution.

It will take place on Wednesday next, May 13th at 5.30pm in the Larmour Lecture Theatre, Physics Building, Queen’s University, Belfast.

Conference to be held on trusts

The annual conference of the Society of Trust and Estates Practitioners will take place in the Radisson Hotel, Stillorgan, Dublin on May 22nd next, and will be introduced by Mr Justice Iarfhlaith ONeill.

It will discuss litigation and alternative dispute resolution as ways of resolving disputes about trusts and estates.

Information on collaborative law

The Association of Collaborative Practitioners Ireland is hosting a number of information evenings around the country for professionals and members of the public interested in learning more about family law and dispute resolution.

The first information evening took place in Dublin on May 7th last and will be followed by events in Cork on May 14th, Galway on May 21st and Belfast on May 28th.

Ahern and Binchy edit legal text

John Ahern and William Binchy have just edited a book on the Rome II Regulation and the Law Applicable to Non-Contractual Obligations.

It contains contributions from scholars in other universities in Europe, Canada and the US, and is based on a conference on the regulation organised by Trinity College law school.
