BRIEFS:Former president Mary Robinson will give a public interview on her life and work with Irish Times journalist Fintan O'Toole at NUI Galway this evening at 7.15pm in the Bailey Allen Hall. The event is free but registration is essential at conference.ie.
Following the interview, a panel discussion will take place with representatives of NUIG’s Irish Centre for Human Rights. Mrs Robinson and NUIG are involved in a partnership to establish a Mary Robinson Centre in her home town of Ballina, Co Mayo.
Mrs Robinson’s personal archive will be the centrepiece of the facility and NUIG will bring researchers and students from around the world to it.
Public procurement
The Irish Centre for European Law will hold a public procurement conference in association with Ireland’s presidency of the EU on Thursday, February 7th, at the Law Society, Blackhall Place, D7. The event is sponsored by Maples Calder and supported by the Communicating Europe Initiative.

Tackling late payments
The European Commission Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry is hosting a half-day seminar tomorrow on late payment and how a new European directive (2011/7/EU) aims to tackle the problem.
The seminar is in the commission offices, 18 Dawson Street, from 1.15pm-5.45pm.
Speakers include Antti Peltomäki, deputy director-general of the Enterprise and Industry Directorate-General, Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton and Minister for Small Business John Perry.

Future of adoption law
A seminar on Thursday at UCC will explore recent and proposed changes to adoption law and practice in Ireland.
Jointly hosted by UCC's Faculty of Law and School of Applied Social Studies, the areas of law and practice to be addressed at the event in the Aula Maxima from 6-8pm include: open adoption; adoption by same-sex couples; recent constitutional developments and proposed changes to adoption law and practice; a comparative perspective on adoption law and practice from Northern Ireland.
