TREOIR, the federation for lone parents and their families, will launch a new updated edition of their booklet, Work in Out! this Thursday. It will contain updated information on budgetary and social welfare changes for lone parents entering or re-entering the workforce.

Among the questions it addresses are: how will wages affect my one-parent family payment and my rent supplement? Is it better to go on the back to work allowance than avail of revenue job assist? Will maintenance affect my entitlement to family income supplement?

Conference on Article 40.3.3

Treoir to launch updated edition of guide to social welfare changes

Article 40.3.3 will have been part of the Irish Constitution for 25 years in 2008, and to assess its impact the School of Law and the Institute for the Study of Knowledge in Society at the University of Limerick will host a one-day conference on March 8th, called "25 years of protection? Article 40.3.3: The Unborn Child and Abortion in Ireland".

Speakers will include Dr Karen Brennan on abortion in Northern Ireland, Dr Gerard Casey on the implications of Article 40.3.3 for the autonomy of pregnant women and Dr Deirdre Madden on assisted human reproduction and Article 40.3.3. Constitutional law lecture

The former chief justice, Mr Justice Keane, will give a public lecture entitled "From Home Rule to Brussels: Irish Constitutions and their commentators" at Dublin City Library and Archive in Pearse Street, Dublin next Thursday. The lecture will be chaired by Dr Gerard Hogan SC, co-editor of Kelly's The Irish Constitution.

The lecture is the 18th Hugh M Fitzpatrick Lecture in Legal Bibliography, and the lecture series is organised by Mr Fitzpatrick.

Public lecture on Lisbon Treaty

The Irish Society for European Law will be organising a series of lectures on the Lisbon Treaty over the next two months, starting on Tuesday March 4th at 6.30 pm in the office of the European Parliament, Molesworth St, Dublin

The speakers will be Dick Roche, Minister of State for European Affairs, and Deirdre Curtin, professor of European Governance at the Utrecht School of Governance, Utrecht. The event will be chaired by Maurice Hayes, Chairman of the National Forum on Europe.
