The Jesuit magazine Studieshas published an apology to the judiciary and to the Chief Justice, Mr Justice Murray, for an article published in its last edition, Volume 99.

The article, by retired solicitor Michael Williams, was highly critical of the judiciary and the Chief Justice.

The apology, published in the current issue, states: "In an article in Volume 99 of Studiesentitled "Reforming the Judiciary", we published an article commenting upon the judiciary in general, and upon certain decisions of the Supreme Court and Mr Justice John L Murray, the Chief Justice, in particular.

“We accept that the contents of that article were factually wrong, factually incomplete and contained statements that were false, unfair and offensive.

“The criticism that was made was entirely unwarranted by the facts of the cases to which reference was made, or otherwise.

“We acknowledge of course that those cases were decided by the court concerned, and each of its members, with the utmost probity. We are happy to take this opportunity to apologise unreservedly to the judiciary. We wish in particular to apologise to any court concerned and to the Chief Justice.”
