A 24-year-old man is being questioned by gardaí in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident which was recorded and posted on social media.

The graphic video appeared on Facebook on Tuesday and has been viewed almost 500,000 times.

It shows a man striking a woman who is believed to be his partner.

She is seen lying on the ground and being repeatedly punched in the face and dragged across the floor by her legs.

Another woman in the video tries to help the woman by pulling the man off her. This woman is seen being thrown across the floor by the man.

The video also shows a young child standing in the background.

It is understood there was a fourth person in the room and that this person recorded the incident.

Gardaí said the man is being held in Cavan Garda Station and can be held for 24-hours under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardaí said the alleged incident happened on Tuesday, May 31st.

A Garda spokesperson said nobody was seriously injured in the incident.
