A customer at a Waterford service station was taken to hospital last night after being injured during a robbery by men armed with a knife.

Gardaí say the incident took place at 7.15pm when two men entered the garage on Park Road, believed to be a Maxol, and began threatening staff and customers.

One man was reported to be injured following the encounter although it was unclear last night what the nature of that injury was or how he came to be targeted. His condition was not thought to be life threatening, however and he was brought to Waterford Regional Hospital.

The two men then attempted to flee the scene on foot with a small amount of cash but were subsequently arrested by gardaí during a follow up search of an apartment in Waterford city.
