A 40-year-old man is due to appear before Kilcock District Court on Tuesday after an aggravated burglary at a hotel in Athy.

Four masked men armed with hammers entered the hotel at 5am on Monday and tied up two members of staff while they stole a sum of money from the office and reception area before leaving in a red Peugeot 206 which was stolen from the car park of the hotel.

A car, which is believed to have been involved in the incident, was later found on fire near the exit to Kill on the M7 motorway.

Gardaí later arrested three men in connection to the incident, two of whom were later released without charge.
