Four men arrested in operation believed to have been on way to commit a robbery

Four men who were arrested on Monday during a Garda operation targeting organised criminal activity are due to appear at the Criminal Courts of Justice at 10.30 this morning.

Two of the men were discovered in the boot of a taxi in Stoneybatter on Monday morning and are thought to have been on their way to commit a robbery.

On searching one of two vehicles stopped on Harold Road in Arbour Hill, Dublin 7 on Monday morning, gardaí discovered two of the men, understood to be part of the same gang as the drivers of the two vehicles, in the boot of one of the cars.

Gardaí also discovered a long-bladed knife, ski masks, balaclavas, a wig and gloves when they searched the two vehicles, one of which was a taxi, at about 10.30am.

All four men, aged 32, 33, 34 and 47, were arrested by gardaí from the newly amalgamated Organised Crime Unit and Garda National Drug Unit.

They were detained under suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Mountjoy and Store Street Garda stations and will appear at the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning.
