A man has been arrested following the discovery of a poitín making factory in Co Cavan.
The 40-year-old Irish man was detained after Customs officers raided the distilling unit close to Ballyconnell last Friday. Details were only released by Revenue this morning.
Some 2,000 litres of alcohol liquid wash used in the distilling process and 900 empty bottles were found, along with two copper cylinder tanks complete with fittings, seven 200 litre barrels and one pump.
Customs described the plant and still as a “fully operational distilling unit” and said investigations are continuing.
